Romania to train Peruvian pilots for new F-16 fleet

Peru has selected the F-16 Block 70 to modernize its air force, with selected pilots set to undergo training at the European F-16 Training Center (EFTC) located at the Fetești Air Base in Romania.

Lockheed Martin announced that the EFTC, which was inaugurated in November 2023 through a collaboration involving Romania, the Netherlands, and Lockheed Martin, will serve as the training hub. The center is designed to increase interoperability among allied and partner air forces.

The Peruvian procurement involves the acquisition of 12 F-16V Block 70 aircraft, which are expected to be delivered between 2029 and 2030. These aircraft will be manufactured in the United States. Estimates suggest the total program for up to 24 aircraft could reach approximately $3.5 billion. Once operational, these jets are expected to be the most modern in South America, significantly enhancing the combat capabilities of the Fuerza Aérea del Perú.
