Romania and Moldova to transition to winter time in October

Romania and the Republic of Moldova are scheduled to transition to winter time during the night of October 24–25, 2026. In both countries, clocks will be set back by one hour, meaning 04:00 will become 03:00, resulting in a 25-hour day.

In Romania, CFR Călători has confirmed that train schedules will remain unchanged. Special measures will be applied to trains already in transit during the time change; these will either stop at designated stations until their new scheduled departure or continue to their final destination if the remaining distance is short. International train services will also continue according to schedule, as neighboring countries follow the same transition.

The shift marks a return to standard time (UTC+2) from daylight saving time (UTC+3). While digital devices like smartphones and computers typically update automatically, manual adjustments are required for analog clocks and certain household appliances.

Health experts note that the change can temporarily disrupt the circadian rhythm, potentially causing fatigue or difficulty concentrating as the body adapts to the new schedule. Discussions regarding the permanent abolition of seasonal time changes continue within the European Union.
