Romania tourism shifts toward experience-based travel

Romanian tourism is undergoing a transformation as travelers increasingly prioritize value and unique experiences over the lowest possible price. According to Traian Bădulescu, a tourism consultant and spokesperson for ANAT, modern tourists are better informed and seek quality-to-price ratios that include comfort, time savings, and memorable experiences.

Domestically, there is a growing interest in thematic travel, including cultural, gastronomic, wellness, and nature-based trips. Key Romanian regions with high potential for short stays and specialized tourism include the mountains, spa areas, Bucovina, Transylvania, the Danube Delta, and cities with significant cultural heritage.

Internationally, while traditional destinations like Greece, Turkey, Bulgaria, Spain, Italy, and Egypt remain popular, there is rising interest in cruises, city breaks, and long-distance travel. Additionally, international travel vloggers are significantly boosting Romania's global visibility. Content creators are showcasing locations such as the Carpathian Mountains, Bran Castle, and Brasov to millions of followers, helping to promote the country's authentic traditions and landscapes to tourists from Germany, Italy, the United States, Israel, and the United Kingdom.
