Romania U21 fails to qualify for EURO 2027 after loss to Finland

The Romania U21 national football team has failed to qualify for EURO 2027 following a 0-2 defeat against Finland U21 at the Eugen Popescu Stadium in Târgoviște. Goals were scored by Luka Hyryläinen in the 28th minute and Toivo Mero in the 85th minute.

With this loss, Romania remains in third place in Group A with 16 points, trailing leaders Finland (22 points) and second-place Spain. The result eliminates any possibility of Romania participating in the qualification play-offs.

The match was marked by significant injuries to the Romanian squad, including midfielder Cătălin Vulturar in a previous match and defender Andrei Dorobanțu, who had to be carried off on a stretcher during this fixture.

Romania U21 head coach Costin Curelea expressed disappointment regarding the result and the absence of several key players, noting that the team had to rely on 12 new players. However, he maintained confidence in the future potential of the squad and the upcoming campaign.
