Romania vaccination coverage falls below 50%

Vaccination coverage in Romania has fallen below 50% over the last two years, according to Doina Pleșca, president of the Romanian Society of Pediatrics. This decline occurs amid rising cases of measles and pertussis.

Data from the National Institute of Public Health for the period of April to June shows specific administration numbers: over 49,000 doses of the ROR vaccine for children aged one and five, more than 31,000 doses for Hepatitis B, and over 30,000 BCG doses. Additionally, nearly 27,000 doses of the vaccine for diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, and polio were recorded for five-year-olds, while approximately 34,000 doses for diphtheria, pertussis, and tetanus were administered to 14-year-olds.

Adult vaccination rates also show significant variation. Respiratory screening conducted on the coast revealed that 62% of those evaluated were vaccinated against COVID-19, 20% against influenza, and only 3.4% against pneumococcus.
