Europe weather: Heat dome and temperature shifts forecast for Romania and Hungary

Meteorological reports for Romania and Hungary indicate significant weather transitions for late September and early October 2026. In Romania, the National Meteorological Administration (ANM) forecasts a period of relatively normal temperatures initially, followed by a notable cooling trend starting around September 30. This cooling will be most pronounced in the south and east, with potential rainfall and increased wind speeds reaching 40–70 km/h in certain regions like Dobrogea and the Carpathian Mountains.

However, a broader European heat dome may influence the region, potentially bringing unseasonably warm temperatures exceeding 30°C to parts of Romania in early October. Conversely, some forecasts suggest temperatures could drop significantly, with Bucharest seeing highs around 17°C by October 1.

In Hungary, HungaroMet Zrt. predicts pleasant, sunny, and dry early autumn weather for the coming week. Daytime highs are expected to range between 20°C and 26°C, though mornings will be notably chilly, with temperatures potentially dropping to 1–2°C in some areas.
