Extreme weather causes fatalities in Japan and flooding in Romania

Extreme weather events have caused significant disruption in Japan and Romania. In the Tokyo region, torrential rains led to record-breaking precipitation in Chiba and Sakura, resulting in four deaths and leaving thousands of people stranded at Soga Station and Narita Airport. Over 80 homes were flooded, and evacuation warnings were issued for approximately 230,000 residents in Chiba Prefecture.

In Romania, the National Meteorological Administration (ANM) issued multiple yellow code warnings. A heatwave is affecting southern counties including Caraș-Severin, Mehedinți, Dolj, Olt, Teleorman, and Giurgiu, with temperatures potentially reaching 38 degrees Celsius and the temperature-humidity index (ITU) hitting a critical 80 units.

Simultaneously, severe weather including torrential rain, lightning, and wind gusts of up to 70 km/h has been forecast for various regions. In Argeș County, specifically Dâmbovicioara, heavy rains caused flash floods that inundated yards and cellars, moved boulders and trees onto roads, and affected vehicles. Authorities are monitoring risks of further flooding and instability across the Carpathian regions.
