Romania wedding costs cause financial stress for guests
A survey conducted by Raiffeisen Bank România and Appinio reveals that rising wedding costs are causing significant financial pressure for Romanians. On average, attending a wedding costs approximately 1,700 lei per person, while a couple can expect to spend around 2,600 lei. One in four couples reports spending at least 3,000 lei per event.
Financial constraints are directly impacting social participation, with 55% of Romanians stating they have refused a wedding invitation due to money. An additional 22% considered the costs before deciding whether to attend. Among those who do attend, 83% describe weddings as a major source of financial stress during the summer season.
While cash gifts remain the primary expense for 87% of guests, other costs contribute to the total. These include clothing, footwear, and accessories (41%), transportation (28%), and makeup or styling services (25%). For those organizing weddings, the average estimated budget has reached approximately 60,000 lei.
