Romania wedding costs cause financial stress for guests

A recent survey conducted by Raiffeisen Bank Romania in partnership with Appinio reveals that wedding attendance has become a significant financial burden for many Romanians. On average, attending a wedding costs 1,700 lei per person or 2,600 lei for a couple. One in four couples reported spending at least 3,000 lei per event.

Cash gifts remain the primary expense for 87% of attendees. Other significant costs include attire and accessories (41%), transportation (28%), and makeup or styling services (25%).

The financial pressure is driving many to decline invitations; 55% of Romanians stated they have refused a wedding invitation due to financial reasons, while 22% considered the costs before deciding. Furthermore, 83% of those attending weddings this summer agree that these events have become a major source of financial stress.

For those organizing weddings, the average budget is approximately 60,000 lei. The survey indicates that 80% of hosts expect to receive enough in gifts to not only cover their expenses but also to have surplus funds remaining.
