Romania women's handball team wins bronze at EHF Euro Cup
The Romanian women's national handball team secured third place at the EHF Euro Cup Final Four tournament held in Bucharest. Under the leadership of coach Ovidiu Mihăilă, the team overcame their underdog status to defeat Hungary with a score of 33-30 in the bronze medal match.
The tournament showcased extreme fluctuations in performance. In their opening match against Denmark, Romania struggled significantly, losing 20-28 after a difficult second half where they scored only four goals. Analysts noted issues with defensive consistency, technical errors, and low attacking efficiency during that game.
However, the team demonstrated a radical improvement in the third-place playoff against Hungary. Former player Vasile Stângă commented on the team's performance, noting that while the bronze medal was a positive result, the team's success heavily relies on the form of their goalkeepers and needs to improve defensive schemes and tactical preparation ahead of the EURO 2026 tournament.
