Romanian airports adopt new hand‑luggage liquid rules from 2026

From 11 March 2026, passengers departing from Bucharest’s Henri Coandă International Airport (Otopeni) and Aurel Vlaicu Airport (Băneasa) may carry liquids in containers up to 2 litres each. The change is enabled by newly installed CT scanners that analyse the molecular composition of contents, eliminating the need for 100 ml limits and resealable plastic bags. The rule applies only to departures; arrivals at foreign airports without the technology must still follow the 100 ml limit, and transit passengers at the Bucharest airports remain subject to the old limits. Other Romanian airports – Iași, Timișoara and Craiova – keep the 100 ml restriction.

Airport staff also warn that attaching ribbons, tags or other accessories to suitcases can obstruct automatic scanning, causing manual checks, delays or misrouting. Travelers are advised to use fixed‑position stickers or colour‑coded belts instead of decorative ribbons, and to remove outdated flight tags before checking luggage.
