Romanian and Moldovan border traffic surges in early June 2026

Romanian border police reported that in the 24 hours to 11 June 2026 they processed over 72,400 persons and about 13,300 vehicles at external borders, including 37,650 entries into the country and 6,617 vehicles. The authorities recorded 81 illegal acts (52 offences and 29 contraventions), imposed fines totaling 30,800 lei and seized goods worth roughly 132,200 lei, while also denying entry to 25 foreign nationals and exit to two Romanian citizens.

At the same time, the Sculeni border crossing in Moldova, which sees a high volume of traffic, was reported to have been fluidised after a period of intense trans‑border flow. Officials said that crossing times have returned to normal, with a marked increase in travelers and vehicles exiting Moldova, though exact figures were not disclosed.
