Romanian artists Alexandra Căpitănescu and Alexandra Dăriescu mark historic firsts at Untold festival and BBC Proms

Alexandra Căpitănescu, who placed third at Eurovision 2023, opened the main stage of Romania’s Untold festival in 2026. She performed her song “Choke Me,” interacted closely with the crowd and said, “Acum șapte ani mă uitam la scena asta imensă și am zis… wow, vreau și eu să cânt aici. Deci dacă eu am putut, puteți și voi,” receiving enthusiastic applause.

Pianist Alexandra Dăriescu became the first Romanian artist to appear at the BBC Proms in London’s Royal Albert Hall. In her concert she played Nadia Boulanger’s “Fantasy for piano and orchestra,” highlighting the work of overlooked women composers. She described the invitation as “a dream become reality” after decades of dedication, marking a historic moment for Romanian classical music on the international stage.
