Romanian artists and tourism featured at BBC Proms

Romanian musicians and cultural promotion are taking center stage at the BBC Proms. Conductor Cristian Măcelaru is scheduled to lead the BBC Symphony Orchestra at the Royal Albert Hall on August 18, 2026. The program includes the British premiere of ‘Skyline’ by Édith Canat de Chizy and Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 10, a work reflecting the experience of life under Stalinist dictatorship.

Additionally, pianist Alexandra Dariescu has made her debut at the festival, performing Nadia Boulanger’s ‘Fantasy for Piano and Orchestra’ alongside the Hallé Orchestra.

In a first for the festival, Romania is being promoted as a tourist destination through a dedicated ‘Discover Romania’ page in the official BBC Proms brochure. This initiative is supported by the Romanian Ministry of Economy, Digitalization, Entrepreneurship and Tourism, alongside the Romanian Cultural Institute in London.
