President Nicușor Dan faces AUR suspension push as PSD rejects initiative

The Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR) launched an online platform, suspend.ro, to gather signatures for a parliamentary motion to suspend President Nicușor Dan. AUR leader George Simion announced the effort and invited citizens to support it.

The Social Democratic Party (PSD) publicly stated it will not back the suspension proposal. PSD deputy Mihai Ghigiu said the country is already in a governmental crisis and that creating a new political conflict is unnecessary. While one PSD member, deputy Dorin Popa, expressed personal support, the party clarified that his view does not represent its official position.

Legal analyst Adrian Toni Neacșu explained that suspending the president and calling early parliamentary elections are mutually exclusive under the Romanian Constitution. A suspension would trigger a national referendum and a subsequent presidential election, while the interim president cannot dissolve parliament.

The website behind the suspension campaign was registered by a Moldovan web designer, linking the initiative to Moldova.
