Romania police crack down on drug trafficking and kidnapping cases

Law enforcement agencies in Romania have conducted several high-profile operations targeting drug trafficking and kidnapping. In Cluj, two men aged 49 and 51 were placed under 30-day preventive arrest for cultivating an outdoor cannabis crop in Florești. Investigators seized 20 cannabis plants reaching up to three meters in height, along with various containers and tools used for processing the drugs.

In a separate major case, two Romanian nationals have reached plea agreements with prosecutors regarding the kidnapping of five-month-old twins belonging to an Indonesian woman. The suspects, who had been living in Italy, allegedly manipulated the mother and held the infants captive for 24 days before the children were recovered in Bucharest. The suspects face prison sentences of approximately three to four years.

Other recent judicial actions include the sentencing of three individuals in Brașov for drug-related offenses and the finalization of sentences for a drug network in Vaslui. Additionally, authorities in Satu Mare arrested two family members for cannabis trafficking, while police in Bistrița are investigating two youths for using counterfeit 50-euro notes to purchase a mobile phone.
