Romanian Border Police urges travelers to plan documents for smooth summer trips

With summer travel surging, the Romanian Border Police advises citizens to arrange journeys well in advance. Travelers should verify the validity of passports or electronic identity cards, check entry requirements for destination and transit states, and adhere to airport arrival times set by airlines and airport authorities.

For road trips outside the Schengen area, drivers are urged to plan routes and use all open border points to avoid bottlenecks. Rules for minors remain unchanged after Romania’s full Schengen accession, and the new electronic ID cards are now accepted for exiting the country. However, parents or guardians must still present any required consent statements, court orders or other legal documents.

A notable simplification is that companions of minors no longer need to present a physical criminal‑record certificate; the information is verified electronically at the border, speeding up checks and reducing paperwork.
