Romanian Brașov‑Constanța train stranded near Lehliu after power line fault

On Thursday, a fault on the contact line between Lehliu and Sărulești forced the temporary closure of track I on the Bucharest‑Constanța main line. The Intercity 538 train traveling from Brașov to Constanța halted in a field near Lehliu, leaving passengers stranded for more than two hours and without air‑conditioning.

CFR intervened with a diesel locomotive to pull the train because electric power was cut. Meanwhile, traffic on the affected section was rerouted to track II. CFR officials said, “We are working to restore the line as quickly as possible,” but provided no estimate for full reopening. The incident disrupted one of Romania’s key passenger and freight corridors.

The railway operator affirmed that specialized teams were deployed to repair the line and resume safe operations as soon as possible.
