Romanian cities consider electric scooter restrictions due to safety concerns

Local authorities in several Romanian cities are evaluating potential restrictions on electric scooters following safety concerns and accidents.

In Cluj-Napoca, residents have submitted formal complaints regarding the use of electric scooters at the ‘La Terenuri’ sports base in the Mănăștur neighborhood. Users are reportedly traveling at high speeds on running tracks and in areas frequented by children and families. Petitioners are requesting a total ban on scooters within the sports complex and are calling for security personnel to actively enforce such restrictions to prevent accidents.

In Lugoj, the local administration is also analyzing the situation after several traffic accidents involving electric scooters. Mayor Călin Dobra stated that while the Traffic Commission has discussed the possibility of limiting scooter circulation to certain zones or banning them in specific areas, no official decision has been made. Authorities are monitoring traffic patterns and user compliance with safety regulations before implementing any formal restrictions.
