Romanian cities implement new electric scooter restrictions

Romanian municipalities are implementing stricter regulations for electric scooter usage to enhance pedestrian safety and road security.

In Reșița, the City Hall has adopted a new regulation requiring users to be at least 14 years old and to carry identification. Mandatory equipment includes a protective helmet and a reflective vest. Additionally, owners must hold valid third-party liability insurance (RCA). The rules prohibit riding in the city center, parks, playgrounds, and near educational institutions or public transport stations. Usage is also banned during adverse weather conditions such as ice or snow.

In Bucharest, the City Hall is introducing measures to restrict rental electric scooters in parks and during large street events. Following discussions with operators Lime, Bolt, and Splash, the city will implement a speed reduction from 5 km/h to 0 km/h in central parks, effectively blocking the use of rental scooters in these green spaces. Operators have expressed agreement with these new restrictions.
