Romanian cities invest in district heating infrastructure

Municipalities in Romania are advancing significant investments to expand and modernize centralized district heating systems.

In Brașov, the Serviciul Public Local de Termoficare (SPLT) has launched a tender for a project valued at approximately 7.04 million lei (excluding VAT). The initiative aims to connect hotels and wellness centers in the Gara – Coresi area to the central network, including the Kronwell Hotel, Belaqva Active Wellness, and Hotel Qosmo. The project is expected to reduce annual CO2 emissions by 429 tons.

In Bacău, the local administration is seeking approval for a 65.84 million lei investment to connect several thermal power plants to the centralized system (SACET). The project aims to modernize the network and improve energy efficiency. The municipality intends to fund 15% of the costs locally, while seeking 85% non-reimbursable funding through the Ministry of Development, Public Works and Administration. Implementation is scheduled for 2026–2027.
