Romanian clubs sign Aurelian Chițu for Politehnica Timișoara and Giannis Anestis for FC Botoșani

Veteran striker Aurelian Chițu, 35, is close to completing a move from FC Hermannstadt to Politehnica Timișoara. His contract with Hermannstadt ends on 30 June 2026, making him a free agent this summer. Chițu appeared in 36 matches last season, scoring nine goals and providing three assists. He has played for nine clubs in Romania, France, Greece and South Korea and previously won the Romanian league (2017), cup (2019) and super cup (2019) with Viitorul Constanța (now Farul Constanța).

Greek goalkeeper Giannis Anestis, also 35, has signed a one‑year contract – with an option for a second year – with FC Botoșani. The former AEK Athens and IFK Göteborg keeper joins the Romanian side after stints in Cyprus, Israel and Sweden, and has a career record that includes a Greek league title (2018), a Greek cup (2016) and a Swedish cup (2020). He played 28 matches in his first full season with Botoșani and 31 in the most recent, keeping ten clean sheets. The transfer fee is reported at €300,000, and Anestis is already linked with a possible return to Greek club Panionios after his contract expires.
