Romanian coastal crackdown cuts illegal beach terraces to 23

Interim Environment Minister Diana Buzoianu inspected the Black Sea coast and announced that only 23 beach terraces were found to violate Romanian beach‑law, down from more than 100 cases in previous seasons. The inspections, carried out with increased frequency, led to notifications to local authorities and operators, giving a five‑day deadline before sanctions such as contract termination can be applied.

Among the illegal structures identified were the well‑known clubs Fratelli and Crazy in the Mamaia resort, which have been ordered to be dismantled. Officials said the majority of the rented beach area – about 80% – now complies with the regulations, and further checks will continue throughout the summer season.
