Romanian consumers surge demand for outdoor leisure goods as summer heat spikes
Data from the price‑comparison platform Compari.ro show a sharp rise in online interest for summer leisure products in Romania. Views for children’s pools increased by 222%, adult pools by 120%, and pool filtration pumps by 233%. Interest in jacuzzis grew 149%, inflatable boats 188%, and camping gear such as tents and binoculars rose by over 30%. Personal‑care items for summer, including beach lotions (up 118%) and deodorants (up 149%), also saw notable growth.
In parallel, an EU‑wide safety study by consumer‑rights group InfoCons flagged 65 sunscreen products for non‑conformity, with more than 80% of alerts involving prohibited chemicals or excessive concentrations and about one in six products suspected of being counterfeit. The discrepancy between declared and actual SPF levels raises the risk of UV‑related skin damage for millions of users, prompting officials to urge buyers to source products from authorized retailers and verify labeling.
The combined trends reflect how high temperatures are driving both increased spending on outdoor recreation and heightened concerns over product safety among Romanian consumers.
