Romanian courts convict two officials for sexual crimes

A Romanian court sentenced businessman George Nistor to six years and eight months in prison for illegally detaining two prostitutes in a hotel in Iași, also ordering him to pay €100,000 in civil damages. In a separate case, former Călinești mayor Mihai Georgescu was sentenced to a two‑year suspended prison term for abusing his office for sexual purposes and was barred from holding public office for four years.

Both convictions highlight the judiciary’s actions against sexual exploitation and abuse of authority in Romania.
