Romanian developers dispute demolition projects in Iași and Brașov
In Iași, Unique Real Estate Development SRL began demolishing a portion of a house that shares a wall with its Unique Residence block on Sfântul Andrei street. The demolition caused cracks in the resident’s walls and ceiling. Co‑owner Laura M., who holds a 38.8 % share of the property together with the Romanian state, has filed a lawsuit seeking separation of her portion and compensation for the damage. The developer is managed by Corneliu Mihai Scutariu and was previously overseen by French citizen Gerarg Justin Joseph Losson.
In Brașov, the company that purchased the former Tino shoe‑factory site obtained a 12‑month demolition permit for the old industrial buildings. After multiple revisions by the urbanism commission and the historic‑monument protection board, the plan was altered to three‑storey residential blocks covering 2,188.07 m² on a 2,992.07 m² plot, with a 12.42 % land‑coverage ratio. The commission required the integration of valuable existing structures and a reduction in building height from the originally proposed six storeys.
