Romanian Education Minister calls for taxation of private tutoring

Romanian Education Minister Sorin Costreie has stated that private tutoring should be taxed to the extent possible. He noted that the widespread reliance on private lessons indicates significant systemic issues within the Romanian school system. Costreie suggested that while personalized education is a goal, the current necessity for mass tutoring highlights a failure to provide adequate remedial support within classrooms.

Financial authorities have clarified that income from tutoring is already subject to existing tax laws. Individuals providing these services are legally required to register with the Trade Register to obtain a fiscal code and must declare their income through a single declaration form to the tax authorities.
