Romanian Embassy in Bern targeted by arson attack

An arson attack occurred at the Romanian Embassy in Bern on Monday afternoon, August 10, 2026. According to preliminary findings, the fire was intentionally set after an unknown perpetrator placed a burning object near the embassy fence, causing the flames to spread to nearby vegetation.

A staff member at the embassy managed to extinguish the fire independently before the Bern professional fire department arrived to provide precautionary monitoring. No injuries were reported, though property damage occurred.

The Bern Cantonal Police, under the direction of the Bern-Mittelland Regional Prosecutor's Office, has launched an investigation. Authorities are currently searching for the suspects, who fled the scene, and are calling for witnesses to come forward with any information.
