Romanian film festivals launch in August across Sfântu Gheorghe and Sibiu

The 23rd edition of the International Independent Film Festival ANONIMUL will take place from 10 to 16 August in Sfântu Gheorghe, Delta Dunării. Five feature films – “Broken Voices”, “Kurak”, “If I Go Will They Miss Me”, “Sfârșitul lumii” and “Silent Rebellion” – will compete for awards after world premieres at festivals such as Venice, Sundance and Karlovy Vary.

Meanwhile, the Transylvania International Film Festival (TIFF) returns to Sibiu for its 20‑year anniversary from 30 July to 2 August. The programme includes Radu Jude’s latest feature “Jurnalul unei cameriste”, documentaries, new Romanian dramas and free open‑air screenings of classic New Romanian Wave titles like “Marfa și banii”. The event also features Q&A sessions with directors and actors, aiming to reaffirm Sibiu as a key hub for cinema enthusiasts.

Both festivals highlight the vitality of Romania’s film scene, showcasing domestic talent alongside acclaimed international works.
