Romanian firefighters continue EU civil protection missions in France and Greece

Romanian fire crews deployed under the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism kept supporting local authorities in France and Greece on Thursday. In France, the module supplied water to fire engines operating in mountainous zones at 500‑700 m altitude, aiming to extinguish hidden hotspots and prevent the rekindling of vegetation and forest fires amid strong winds. Night‑time patrols were also carried out to detect early‑stage ignitions.

In Greece, the Romanian teams patrolled the Schinia National Park, inspected and tested hydrants along their route, and visited the operational base of the Hellenic Fire Service in Nea Makri to exchange experience. After returning to their base, they attended a briefing on the 2018 Mati fire, discussing lessons learned and measures adopted to improve emergency management.
