Romania celebrates Firefighters' Day with ceremonies and awards

Romania celebrated Firefighters' Day on September 13, marking 178 years of tradition. The occasion involved military ceremonies, promotions, and awards across various Inspectorates for Emergency Situations (ISU) including Bistrița-Năsăud, Hunedoara, Sibiu, Alba, and Semenic.

President Nicușor Dan issued a message emphasizing that firefighters are on the front lines of national security, particularly facing complex risks such as vegetation fires, floods, and regional instability. He highlighted their professionalism and international contributions to civil protection.

Key recognitions included the naming of Paramedic of the Year and Firefighter of the Year in several regions. Ceremonies also featured technical exhibitions at the Ministry of Internal Affairs and a symbolic torchlight procession to honor fallen firefighters. International cooperation was noted, specifically with Austrian delegations and Romanian personnel participating in missions across Europe, including France and Greece.
