Romanian football clubs face funding cuts and managerial controversies

Former international striker Ciprian Marica, now a shareholder at Farul, criticised the recent withdrawal of Hungarian government funding for Romanian clubs Sepsi and Csikszereda. He said the loss of large state budgets makes clubs fragile, noting Csikszereda’s poor start to the season and a 0‑2 defeat to FCSB that highlighted the impact of uncertain financing.

At the same time, Ciprian Anton, appointed manager of Liga 2 side Cetatea Suceava, drew criticism for holding multiple public positions, including school inspector, local sport council adviser and former football association delegate. An interview on a sports programme highlighted these roles and raised questions about possible conflicts of interest in the club’s management.

Both stories illustrate the financial and governance challenges confronting Romanian football clubs outside the top tier.
