Romanian football faces controversies involving match-fixing allegations and racism

Romanian football is currently navigating several high-profile controversies. CSM Slatina has issued a formal rejection of allegations made by Olt County Council President Marius Oprescu, who claimed club leadership and players were involved in rigged sports betting and were under investigation. The club maintains that its recent sporting successes, including a first-place standing in Liga II, disprove these claims and has announced intentions to contest the statements in court.

In the Superliga, tensions have escalated following racist chants directed at CFR Cluj coach Marius Șumudică. While Șumudică condemned the incidents and threatened to withdraw his team from the pitch, former player Adrian Mutu criticized the coach, labeling him a major instigator in football. Șumudică declined to engage in a direct confrontation with Mutu, stating the matter was "too big" for him.

Other notable developments include FCSB coach Laurențiu Reghecampf confirming that Denis Drăguș has returned to the squad following medical issues, though his playing status remains uncertain for the upcoming match against U Cluj. Additionally, Dani Coman, president of FC Argeș, expressed profound disappointment following a poor performance against UTA Arad, citing a heavy injury toll as a primary factor for the club's struggles.
