Romanian Football Federation investigates U21 staff over Ibiza party

The Romanian Football Federation (FRF) has launched an internal investigation following reports that members of the Romania U21 national team staff attended a party involving alcohol in Ibiza. The incident occurred just before the team’s 7-1 loss to Spain U21.

New images have surfaced showing businessman Nicu Gheară alongside staff members, including coach Ionuț Curelea, team manager Iulian Oțelea, and assistant coach Ionuț Stancu. The FRF stated that leaving the official national team program during a call-up constitutes a “disciplinary deviation and a lack of professionalism.”

The federation emphasized that such actions are incompatible with the standards of conduct required by its Code of Ethics and Internal Regulations. Former international player Ilie Dumitrescu criticized the behavior, noting that while players remained in their hotel, the staff—the most important figures in the delegation—engaged in the outing.
