Supercupa României match sees VAR shift and Craiova favored

The Romanian Football Federation (FRF) signed a contract to equip Superliga stadiums with VAR systems using six 4K cameras per venue, a move aimed at modernising the league.

For the Supercupa României between Universitatea Craiova and U Cluj, a signal‑reception problem forced the video‑assistant referee (VAR) to operate from the Craiova stadium rather than the planned central hub in Mogoșoaia. A reserve VAR team was deployed on‑site to ensure uninterrupted coverage.

FRF technical director Mihai Stoichiță said the match promises a “spectacol” and noted that Craiova, playing at home, is the favourite, while acknowledging U Cluj as a dangerous opponent.
