Romanian Forest Nurseries Supply Over 245,000 Seedlings Each Year for National Reforestation

The Cantonal Nursery Gorban, located near the Prut River in the Răducăneni forestry district, cultivates more than 200,000 forest seedlings each year. Managed by forester Adrian Drăgan, the small‑scale operation focuses on species such as white poplar, oak, willow and birch, using irrigation drawn from the Prut and a limited staff.

The Zimbrărie Nursery in the Târgu‑Neamț forestry district, covering 0.6 hectares within the IV Cetate production unit, provides around 45,000 seedlings annually. It grows fir, spruce and oak by manual sowing, regular weeding, irrigation with rotating sprinklers and phytosanitary treatments. The seedlings are destined for reforestation campaigns carried out by the respective forest districts.

Together, the two Romanian nurseries produce over 245,000 seedlings each year, supporting the country's ongoing forest regeneration efforts.
