Romanian Handball Federation targets TVR commentator

The Romanian Handball Federation (FRH) has decided to take institutional action against TVR sports commentator Cosmin Băleanu following his critical remarks regarding referees and clubs during broadcasts. During a Board of Directors meeting on September 7, 2026, officials decided to draft a formal complaint to the editor-in-chief of the public broadcaster, TVR.

FRH officials stated that the move is intended to be an institutional matter rather than a personal grievance. However, reports have surfaced regarding the nature of the discussions. Alin Cârligeanu, a former referee and current international observer, initiated the request. While some reports suggest audio recordings from the meeting indicate attempts to intimidate or silence the commentator, Cârligeanu has denied allegations of censorship, arguing that the federation simply wants to ensure commentary does not negatively affect the commercial value of the sport's product.
