Romanian heritage sites Corvin Castle and Sighișoara citadel wall restored with PNRR funds

The historic Corvin Castle in Hunedoara has entered the final phase of a comprehensive restoration, the first since the 1914 works. Mayor Dan Bobouţanu said the project, financed by a 5 million‑euro regional operational program and a 6.6 million‑euro grant from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), is slated for completion by 31 August 2026.

In the Transylvanian town of Sighișoara, mayor Ioan Iulian Sîrbu announced the completion of restoration and consolidation works on three sections (12, 16, 22) of the medieval citadel wall. The effort, fully funded by the PNRR with a non‑repayable allocation of 12.267 million lei, will be formally received this week. Both projects aim to preserve Romania’s cultural heritage and boost tourism.
