Romanian historical landmarks and heritage sites highlighted

Historical and cultural landmarks in Romania are being highlighted through local heritage sites and archival materials.

In the vicinity of Brașov, the Râșnov Citadel stands as a significant defensive monument. Originally founded by Teutonic Knights in the 13th century, the fortress served as a strategic refuge for local Saxon communities during various invasions. The site features thick stone walls, nine semi-circular towers, and a sophisticated defensive system including deep moats and a mobile bridge.

In Craiova, the Oltenia Museum has released archival postcards from 1967 showcasing Nicolae Romanescu Park (formerly known as Parcul Poporului). Designed by French landscape architect Édouard Redont, the park was constructed between 1901 and 1903. The historical images capture the park's lake and pier area, documenting the city's social atmosphere and landscape from nearly six decades ago.
