Romanian honeymooner rescues woman from drowning on Crete beach

Marian Buzilă, an artist from Satu Mare, Romania, became a hero on a beach in Crete while on his honeymoon with wife Simona Trașcă. The couple heard desperate cries as two women struggled against strong Mediterranean currents with no lifeguard present. Buzilă immediately jumped into the water, fought the turbulent waves, and managed to bring one of the women safely to shore.

The rescued tourist, who spoke English, repeatedly thanked Buzilă for his quick action. Trașcă recounted the incident, noting the unusually rough sea and the lack of rescue services. The incident highlights the dangers of strong coastal currents in popular tourist areas and the impact of ordinary citizens stepping in during emergencies.
