Romanian hospitals launch cancer screening and climate resilience projects

In Romania, two major healthcare initiatives have been announced. The Târgu Mureș County Emergency Clinical Hospital is participating in the DARIA project, a €52 million national program funded by European funds. This initiative focuses on free breast cancer screening for approximately 120,000 women, specifically targeting vulnerable and socio-economically disadvantaged groups aged 50 to 69 in the Central Region, including Brașov, Covasna, Harghita, Sibiu, Alba, and Mureș counties.

Separately, the Pius Brînzeu County Emergency Clinical Hospital in Timișoara has joined the MOUNTADAPT consortium under the Horizon Europe program. As a European replication center, the hospital will work with 27 international partners to develop 11 innovative solutions aimed at increasing the resilience of healthcare systems against climate change and extreme weather events. The project involves adapting best practices from mountainous and vulnerable regions in countries such as France and Slovenia to the local context.
