Romanian households urged to cut water use amid drought

Shorter showers are highlighted as the most effective measure, with a four‑minute shower using roughly 50 litres compared with over 80 litres for a full bath. Turning off the tap while brushing teeth, fixing leaking faucets and using partial‑flush toilet settings can each save thousands of litres per year.

Additional recommendations include collecting rainwater for garden irrigation, reusing kitchen water for plants, washing cars with a bucket instead of a hose, and operating dishwashers and washing machines only when full and on eco programmes. Installing smart water meters helps users monitor usage in real time and spot leaks quickly. Implementing these practices collectively can ease pressure on the national water system during the current dry spell.
