Romanian intellectuals discuss patriotism and cultural identity

In a series of discussions, Romanian intellectuals Ioan Aurel Pop, Tudor Petcu, and Maria Eftime address the current state of national identity, patriotism, and the role of tradition in modern society.

Academician Ioan Aurel Pop critiques what he describes as a systematic effort to undermine patriotism in Romania. He argues that the distinction between patriotism and xenophobia is being intentionally blurred and that the dismantling of historical education contributes to a sense of collective guilt among citizens. Pop also comments on the mass emigration of Romanians, noting the social consequences for those remaining in the country.

Journalist Maria Eftime and publicist Tudor Petcu discuss the principles of the Noua Junime association, which draws inspiration from the classical Junimea society. Their dialogue explores how to maintain traditional values and spiritual foundations, such as Orthodoxy, amidst the rise of technocratic pragmatism and artificial intelligence.
