Romanian investigations target political intimidation and influence peddling

Authorities in Romania are investigating two separate incidents involving allegations of criminal misconduct.

In Tunari, an investigation is examining whether associates of George Simion attempted to intimidate witnesses and obstruct justice. Individuals identified as Cătălin Grădinaru and Larisa reportedly entered the commune under the guise of being journalists—lacking microphones, cameras, or official credentials—to pressure residents and identify those cooperating with police regarding a criminal complaint.

Separately, the Olt Prosecutor's Office has confirmed a criminal case regarding alleged influence peddling at the Olt Water Company (CAO). The investigation follows a video recording showing Mădălin-Ady Teodosescu, director of the Balș branch and former mayor, receiving wild boar meat and a rabbit during discussions about a contract extension. Additionally, CAO administrative director Gabriel-Cătălin Andronesi was recently detained in an unrelated criminal case involving allegations of usury and blackmail.
