Romanian Labour Minister Dragoș Pîslaru disputes DIICOT raid on Bihor care homes

Interim Labour Minister Dragoș Pîslaru sent an official request to DIICOT demanding an explanation for the raids at nursing homes in Bihor County, complaining that his ministry was not notified in advance. DIICOT rejected his requests, stating the investigation is secret, the ministry has no procedural standing, and warned that publishing any documents could constitute a criminal offence. Prosecutors emphasized that the emergency evacuation was necessary because the facilities operated by Viorel Pașca lacked legal accreditation.

Pîslaru also addressed misinformation about the relocation of an elderly man, clarifying that the individual consented to be moved to a centre in Arad and was not forced. The ministry reported that 409 vulnerable persons identified during the raids have been relocated: 394 to 76 social services across 20 counties and 15 remain in medical institutions, with one death under investigation. The relocations were distributed mainly to Alba, Satu Mare, Sibiu, Arad, Cluj and Botoșani counties.
