Romanian local authorities launch dog registration and capture campaigns

The Gorj County Animal Protection Service announced a new information campaign and a census of owned dogs in the commune of Jupânești. The census will precede a free sterilisation and microchipping operation, building on a recent campaign in Urdari that sterilised over 100 dogs. Service officials said the data collection helps determine the scale of interventions and raises public awareness of responsible pet ownership.

In the commune of Almașu, local officials carried out an operation to capture abandoned dogs after a resident reported being blocked from leaving his yard by a large unsupervised dog. Five stray dogs were seized, and authorities stressed the legal responsibility of owners to control their animals. The municipality affirmed that such identification and removal actions will continue until stray dogs become an exception rather than a habit.
