Romanian local councils appoint school director interview commissions

Local authorities in Piatra-Neamț and Vaslui are undergoing processes to appoint representatives to interview commissions for school director and deputy director positions.

In Piatra-Neamț, Mayor Vasile-Adrian Niță initiated a project to designate local administration representatives for 19 educational units, including national colleges and high schools. This follows a request from the Neamț County School Inspectorate. The nominees must meet specific criteria, such as not being teaching staff at the interviewing unit, not being candidates in the current competition, and not holding existing director or deputy director roles. If the local authority fails to adopt the nominations by the deadline, the mayor may make the appointments via decree.

In Vaslui, the process has sparked political debate within the Local Council. A draft resolution prepared by Mayor Lucian Braniște faced scrutiny regarding whether the commissions should consist of local councilors or city hall employees. Radu Ilie, the general school inspector for ISJ Vaslui, clarified that the recommended approach is to select representatives from among local councilors first, using specialized staff from the mayor's office only when councilors do not meet the necessary qualifications, such as higher education requirements.
