Romanian local officials face administrative and legal disputes

In Piatra-Neamț, Mayor Adrian Niță has announced potential legal action against the Romanian Government. The mayor alleges that the government has delayed payments for projects funded through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) by five to six months, causing financial damage to the local administration.

Two major projects, the city hall headquarters and the Gheorghe Cartianu Technical College, are currently at approximately 90% execution. Niță stated that the municipality is currently using its own funds to complete the works by the end of the year to avoid the requirement of returning the allocated funds if deadlines are missed.

Separately, in Timișoara, a political dispute has emerged between County Councilor Radu Țoancă and Vice Mayor Paula Romocean regarding the urban planning certificate for the new Dan Păltinișanu stadium. Țoancă has accused Romocean of dishonesty concerning the timeline and circumstances of their meeting regarding the document, which was eventually signed by another vice mayor, Ruben Lațcău.
