Romanian man, Hungarian mother sentenced to life for murders

A court in Iași, Romania sentenced a man to life imprisonment for killing his pregnant partner in January 2026. The court ordered €2.1 million in damages to the victim’s family and monthly payments of 2,000 lei for each of the three children until adulthood. The murder was described as exceptionally severe, with the perpetrator assaulting the woman with a knife, destroying her phone and abandoning her.

In Nyíregyháza, Hungary, a mother received a non‑final life sentence for drowning her 20‑year‑old disabled daughter in a bathtub in 2022. The trial revealed prolonged abuse, daily alcohol consumption, and the child’s severe disability. The mother and her partner had initially tried to pass the incident off as an accident before the truth emerged. The mother’s partner died during the proceedings, leading to the termination of the case against him.
