Romanian mayors announce future candidacies and political shifts

In Romania, two prominent mayors have made significant political announcements regarding their future candidacies.

Soós Zoltán, the mayor of Târgu Mureș, has confirmed his intention to run for another term. He emphasized the need for a ten-year period to complete ongoing urban projects, such as the bridge over the Mureș river and various road modernizations. Soós noted that he is willing to participate in an internal UDMR preliminary competition to secure the party's nomination, following internal calls for such a process.

Meanwhile, Constantin Toma, the mayor of Buzău, has expressed strong opposition to his current party, the PSD. Describing himself as a “prisoner” within the formation, Toma criticized the party leadership for decisions he believes are against the country's interests. He announced his intention to run for a new mandate as an independent candidate, citing high local support from previous elections and expressing dissatisfaction with the party's current political direction and economic handling.
